About this role
YSAT is recruiting a Protection Lead to provide technical leadership and oversight for protection activities under its OCHA-funded Refugee Response Programme — leading community-based protection, referrals, GBV/MHPSS awareness, accountability to affected populations, and protection monitoring across three settlements.
Recruitment is contingent upon confirmation of funding by UNOCHA's Uganda Humanitarian Fund.
Responsibilities
- Lead planning and implementation of protection activities including community mobilisation, protection awareness, peaceful coexistence, GBV/MHPSS awareness, and identification of protection risks
- Coordinate and strengthen community-based protection mechanisms with RWCs, religious/cultural leaders, and community protection actors
- Lead identification and referral of vulnerable individuals, GBV survivors, and persons with specific needs through established referral pathways
- Supervise three Project Assistants – Protection across Rhino Camp, Imvepi, and Bidibidi
- Represent YSAT in settlement-level protection coordination forums with OPM, UNHCR, and humanitarian partners
- Prepare accurate monthly and quarterly programme reports and document lessons learned and success stories
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Development Studies, Human Rights, International Law, Community Development, Refugee Studies, or related Social Sciences; Post-Graduate qualification is an added advantage
- Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in protection programming within humanitarian, refugee, or displacement settings
- Demonstrated experience in Community-Based Protection, child protection, GBV risk mitigation, PSEA, safeguarding, and accountability to affected populations
- Experience supervising field staff and working with community structures, government authorities, UN agencies, and humanitarian partners
- Prior experience working with Refugee-Led Organizations is a requirement
